Such beautiful leaves on the ground! The clouds parted briefly yesterday afternoon while I was walking my dog and this colorful patch was illuminated. I was happy to have this man wander into my photo…

I collected a few for a series of photo blocks. Here’s one I made this morning from a very fragile Alder leaf. This leaf was just a skeleton – I didn’t dare put it in my pocket with the others!

I spent last week visiting home in Florida. I didn’t pick up my camera much, but did make some snapshots of some favorite familiar scenes that make me think of home. What a warm, sweet week.

I’m happy to have my photograph, The Thweet Family, included in an interesting show at New Orleans’ Darkroom Gallery called  Paraphrase. All of the photographs in the show mimic or allude to famous photographs; Hugh Brown’s photograph (above), Child with Toy Chainsaw in Griffith Park, based on the Diane Arbus image is a great example. My photograph (below) paraphrases this wonderful 1953 photograph by Paul Strand called The Family.  Listen to the juror’s statement here. Sure wish I were closer to New Orleans and could make it to the show!

I’m happy to have my portrait of June, from my Blindness series, as today’s featured photo on flakphoto.com. One of my favorite photography websites, flakphoto is dedicated to sharing contemporary photography online. My photo is featured as part of the current show at the Center for Fine Art Photography’s current show ~ the 2009 International Exhibit (which I’m also excited to be a part of!) A film on Diane Arbus, one of my favorite photographers. Her words on taking portraits are really interesting and simply put. This is part 1 and starts out with her daughter, Doon Arbus, whose big hair and glasses are oddly distracting! Parts 2 and 3 can be found on youtube.
