We’ve had  our fist few frosty mornings here in Steilacoom. I guess I can’t will winter away after all. Clear mornings are really beautiful for picture taking. Oh, but the wind!

Such beautiful leaves on the ground! The clouds parted briefly yesterday afternoon while I was walking my dog and this colorful patch was illuminated. I was happy to have this man wander into my photo…

I collected a few for a series of photo blocks. Here’s one I made this morning from a very fragile Alder leaf. This leaf was just a skeleton – I didn’t dare put it in my pocket with the others!

Oh! I Wish...

For my birthday, we explored farther south on the coast of Oregon. We stayed on the beach in a small town called Bandon. With summer over, it was very quiet there. I kept imagining an A in front of Bandon. Fall seemed to arrive just as we did, with chilly air and strong winds. Really strong winds! We stepped onto the beach and into a sand storm. I had a good time trying to get photos of the sand swirling off the dunes and streaking down the beach. I didn’t do a very good job – these photos make it appear much calmer than it was! But look close and you’ll find some ghostly streaks in a few…

30!

One of the reasons the Northwest is so Great – the abundance of beautiful evergreen trees. I love being surrounded by dense patches of fir, spruce, and hemlock trees. Here are three recent tree photos~

“To Market” is the latest in my series of journal portraits. (See the others here.) This entry is taken from the diary of a woman visiting relatives in France in 1956. On this day she went to a busy street market in Paris and bought asparagus, rhubarb, and radishes. Good choices – these vegetables made for a beautiful color combination. At first, I actually had a hard time deciding if this writer was a man or a woman. The handwriting seems neither masculine or feminine. She writes with excitement about attending luxury car shows but also makes note of helping out with housework (I guess that makes it clear!) By the end, enough entries tipped in the female direction, including this one.

I also included a photo of my irresistible assistant Teddy showing off his big, sharp tooth.
